About Me
Welcome to my world of bellydance! I'm [Your Name], Australia’s top bellydancer, and I’m thrilled to share my journey with you.
Early Days: A Family Affair
My bellydance journey began when I was just 7 years old. Every week, my mum, my best friend, her mum, my sisters, and I would practice together, creating costumes and preparing for performances with sewing bees that filled our weekends with creativity and joy. Performance days were always a highlight; we’d help each other with makeup, don our beautiful costumes, and bring life to multicultural festivals and Middle Eastern-themed events. I cherish those early memories, where we danced together, celebrated each other, and built a foundation of love and camaraderie that still fuels my passion today.
First Steps on Stage
My very first performance was a special choreography created by my best friend's mum, who was also my first bellydance teacher. At just 7 years old, I danced at the Yagoobi Festival on the Fraser Coast. Dressed in cute vests sewn by our mums, we performed alongside the adults. The crowd’s warm reception was unforgettable—especially the iconic photo where I, excited and happy, stood out among my friends with a beaming pose. That moment was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with dance.
Professional Beginnings
My first regular gig was at the Perth Hookah Lounge in WA, a vibrant restaurant and shisha lounge where I danced every second weekend. The customers' enthusiastic reactions and generous tips were incredibly rewarding. The lively atmosphere, with shisha and cheers of "yalla habibi," allowed my showmanship to flourish. The experience was transformative, boosting my confidence and helping me build a diverse collection of costumes.
Overcoming Challenges
The road wasn't always smooth. I remember a particularly hurtful moment when a stranger criticized my choice to wear heels, despite their compliment being unkind. That comment stung deeply and made me shy away from heels for a time. But as I grew and matured, I realized the importance of prioritizing my health and confidence. Today, I embrace my journey with a renewed sense of self, knowing that the opinions of others do not define my worth.
The Impact of COVID-19
The pandemic hit hard, causing all my contracts to vanish overnight. I found myself back in my hometown in QLD, grappling with the loss of dance opportunities while balancing a new reality of working in a café and as a graphic designer. It was a challenging time, both personally and professionally. I gained weight and struggled with my self-image, but I used this period to reflect and rebuild.
A Fresh Start
Determined to revive my passion, I moved to Brisbane for a fresh perspective, but the big city wasn’t the right fit. Returning to my hometown, I focused on regaining my fitness, reengaging with dance, and transitioning to online teaching. I lost the 20kg I had gained and regained my confidence, finding joy in helping others discover the transformative power of bellydance.
Teaching with Heart
Teaching bellydance is more than just a profession for me; it’s a calling. Inspired by my mum’s journey to empowerment through dance, I’m passionate about offering women a space to find their own sense of self-expression and confidence. Whether or not they pursue a professional path, I believe every woman deserves to feel good about herself and celebrate her body as it is right now.
Enriching Lives Through Dance
Running my dance school is a profound joy. I learn from my students in every class and cherish the opportunity to pass on the knowledge and passion that has shaped my own life. Watching women grow, gain confidence, and embrace their bodies is incredibly rewarding. Many of my students start with hesitation but blossom into confident dancers who celebrate their progress and personal transformations.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my dance school, offering a variety of classes for different skill levels and age groups. My dream is to inspire the next generation of dancers, just as I was inspired in my youth. I hope to continue sharing the joy of bellydance and helping women and children discover the power and beauty within themselves.
Thank you for visiting my page. I hope you feel the warmth, love, and passion that dance has brought into my life, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
